Lien searches are useful. Whenever you buy a vehicle, and we do mean whenever, run one. At an average cost of less than $20, it's the best insurance money can buy. Many dealers are shocked to learn that some auctions don't do lien searches so, if you don't do a search, no one else does. Some of our Members are regular buyers at "salvage" auctions. Some of the bigger players in this area are Copart and Impact Auto Auctions now IAA Canada.
For years we have noted that when an insurance company "writes off" a total loss vehicle and sells it at one of these sales, there are often undischarged liens. Many will get discharged once the insured pays the loan with the insurance proceeds. But there have been instances where, for a number

Everyday we join online auctions for salvage and damaged vehicles. Our customers are on the phone while we bid and they can see live auction via their visitor accounts. It is very exciting when we win an auction. Then we email instruction to our customer how to pay and where to pickup vehicle.

Cars on used dealer auctions are sold only to registered car dealers.
There is an arbitration policy for cars purchased on dealer auctions by the dealers.
For example if car mileage is 100000km or less and if car was not previously written off by insurance. Buyer can return a vehicle for a full refund if engine wont start or transmission wont shift or there is a hidden damage which was not disclosed by the seller at the time of sale.
In this case buyer has 7 days since the date of purchase to apply for such refund.
Any newer vehicles still have remaining manufacturer warranties usually 3 years / 60000km or more. That depends of the car manufacturer.
None of auction cars come with SAFETY CERTIFICATES unfortunately. Safety certificate is valid only for 36 days since inspection date.
